Day Trip From Marrakech To Ourika Valley

Explore the Lush Ourika Valley — Just 1 Hour from Marrakech

Escape the heat and energy of the medina with a refreshing day trip from Marrakech to Ourika Valley — one of the most scenic and accessible natural escapes in the entire High Atlas region. Just 60 km south of the city, the Ourika Valley offers a stunning contrast of terracotta villages, crystal-clear rivers, fragrant herb markets, and cascading waterfalls framed by towering mountain peaks.

This guided full-day excursion is perfect for nature lovers, families, and first-time visitors to Morocco looking to experience authentic Berber culture and breathtaking landscapes without straying too far from Marrakech.

What to Expect on Your Ourika Valley Day Trip

Morning: Hotel Pickup & Drive Across El Haouz Plains

Your day begins with a door-to-door pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. Your private driver heads south across the vast El Haouz plains, passing through traditional Berber villages and scenic olive groves and pine forests. The landscape gradually transforms as you gain altitude and the snowcapped Atlas peaks come into view.

Along the way, your guide will make a few stops to let you take in the views and discover local herb markets where vendors sell aromatic mountain plants including thyme, lavender, and rosemary — treasures of the Atlas foothills. You may also spot camels at roadside spots for those who'd like to try a short ride.

Midday: Waterfall Hike with Your Local Guide

Upon arrival at the end of the Ourika Valley road, your certified local mountain guide leads you on a 30-minute hike up to the spectacular valley waterfalls. The trail winds through traditional Berber villages and offers incredible panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains at every turn.

The path can be steep in sections, so your guide will set a comfortable pace and ensure your safety throughout. At the top, you'll be rewarded with the sight and sound of the cascading waterfalls — a cool and peaceful retreat from the Marrakech heat. The valley is also known for its walnut trees, apple orchards, and wildflowers.

Afternoon: Berber Lunch & Return to Marrakech

After the hike, make your way back to a traditional Berber restaurant nestled in the valley. Here you'll enjoy an authentic Moroccan Tagine prepared with locally sourced ingredients, accompanied by mint tea and stunning mountain views.

Rested and refreshed, your driver will then take you back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon. Total driving time is approximately 3 hours round trip.

Total driving time: ~3 hours  |  Hike to waterfalls: ~30 minutes each way
